Upgraded Experience From Seoul and Stansted - Emirates Brings in its Retrofitted Boeing 777

Emirates has taken on a massive operation to modernize its older aircraft’s interiors in order to extend their working life span and to remain competitive in terms of onboard product. Gradually a larger percentage of these aircraft have been returning to service and, therefore, more flights are now being served by these retrofitted planes. Two more destinations are just about ready to be included in this list, starting April 2025.

Emirates Introducing Its Retrofitted Boeing 777s to Seoul and Stansted Flights

Two new destinations are set to see Emirates launch services using these retrofitted Boeing 777-300ERs, they are:

  • London Stansted (STN)
  • Seoul Incheon (ICN)

Currently Emirates serves both destinations using its older cabin interior version. That isn’t much of an issue in Economy class but, as we’ll touch on further down, it is quite a big drawback for those booking a premium cabin ticket.

Seoul Incheon international airport will welcome the updated version of the Emirates Boeing 777 starting April 14th 2025, while London Stansted on the other hand will have to be a little more patient as it’ll see the newly refurbished planes arrive on May 7th 2025.

Seoul and Stansted are important markets for Emirates. Both serve a large, wealthy population which is accustomed to traveling abroad with good frequency. They are both airports serving finance hotspots in Europe and Asia.

Emirates just couldn’t hold off upgrading its machinery on Stansted any longer. Heathrow and Gatwick both are served with newer cabin interiors as they both receive daily A380 flights. Stansted on the other hand, was the sole London airport still on older cabin interior versions. Simply put, starting May 7th Emirates will have much better product consistency across all London-bound flights.

The spacious cabin displays modern cream-colored seats with privacy partitions, wood-grain side tables, personal entertainment screens, and minibar areas. Each seat has direct aisle access and is arranged in a symmetric pattern throughout the cabin, showcasing the premium design that offers significantly more privacy and comfort than the older 2-3-2

The situation was similar for Seoul as the airline has fierce competition which has massively improved its product over time. The Dubai-based airline was just lagging behind on its offered product. As an example you can take a look at what Air France offers on its flights from Seoul in this review of mine.

What do These Retrofitted Planes Offer? – Are They Worth The Cost?

I’ll just quickly give you my two cents on the new and upgraded version of Emirates’ cabin interiors. I’ve done it on other posts, however I’ll just touch on it again for the sake of this post.

If you are committed to flying only with Emirates, then yes you should absolutely go out of your way to fly on one of these newly retrofitted Boeing 777s or on an Airbus A380. They offer a way superior in-flight experience, especially if you’re traveling in business class.

The aircraft features the airline's classic livery with a white fuselage and distinctive gold "Emirates" lettering. This is one of the aircraft types being retrofitted with new interiors for routes to Seoul and London Stansted as mentioned in the blog post.

The old version of the Boeing 777 business class features 42 seats in a not so premium-feeling 2-3-2 layout. That means no direct aisle access for the central passenger and the two seated by the windows. The new business class featured on the latest retrofitted planes instead offer a much more comfortable 1-2-1 layout.

Now, if the question is: same price same travel time, should I go for Emirates to have the most comfortable experience? Well, in that case my answer is slightly different, maybe not. Particularly in Business class and First class you can find better experiences from other airlines especially if the airport of travel is Seoul Incheon. Emirates is fantastic at providing a consistent experience on every trip, but it doesn’t blow your mind.
