Uzbekistan Airways Expands Its Future Fleet With 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners

Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing officials at the 2025 signing ceremony converting 787-9 Dreamliner options into firm aircraft orders.

Uzbekistan Airways is an interesting airline. The country is not all that popular among the international tourist crowd as is neighboring Kazakhstan, yet it operates quite a modern fleet of planes. A fleet that is destined to further modernize as Uzbekistan Airways converts some order options into firm orders with Boeing.

Uzbekistan Airways Converts 787 Options Into Firm Orders

It didn’t take Uzbekistan Airways all that long to make up its mind about converting its options into firm orders.

The airline had originally announced its intention to purchase 14 Boeing 787-9 planes on September 22nd 2025 with 8 order options in hand. Here we are, less than 2 months later, with the airline already making a move in converting those options into firm orders.

A Growing Dreamliner Fleet: 22 Boeing 787s on Order

The conversion of those 8 options held by Uzbekistan Airways into firm orders expands the carrier’s order book with Boeing. There are now 22 Boeing 787-9 on order.

That will make the 787-9 the backbone to all long haul and high capacity operations for Uzbekistan Airways. The Uzbeki national carrier already operates the smaller size of the Dreamliner, the 787-8. Having the 787-9 at its disposal will allow to operate flights on strong demand routes offering more seats, or alternatively carrying more hold cargo.

A Major Moment for Central Asian Aviation Growth

This order pairs with the other significant order that involves the Boeing 787-9 coming from central Asia. Almost simultaneously Air Astana also announced it was placing a substantial order for the mid-sized Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Air Astana placed its largest ever aircraft order. The Kazakh carrier ordered 15 Boeing 787 directly from the manufacturer and 3 more from lessors.
