American Airlines Miami Lounge Expansion: Key Details

American Airlines has two tiers of lounges:

  • Flagship lounges

It owns one of each lounges at it’s Miami international airport hub with plans to both renovate and build new facilities of this type. The idea is to uplift the current level of service and future-proof what it offers its customers for years to come.

Currently American Airlines Miami lounges consist of two facilities. They are all located in Concourse D of the North terminal in Miami International Airport. Namely they are:

  • Flagship lounge at gate D15
  • Admirals Club and Flagship lounge at gate D30

Investment Overview and Timeline

What American Airlines did is more of a tease than a real announcement. There aren’t all that many details and specifics regarding the new lounges developments.

What we do know is that American Airlines Miami lounges are going to change in some way. In essence what is going to happen is:

  • A brand new Flagship lounge will be designed and built from the ground up.
  • The current Flagship lounge, opened in 2017, will be transformed into an expanded Admirals Club lounge

This all together should bring to an end result of a larger overall footprint for its premium facilities and most importantly for qualifying passengers and AAdvantage frequent flyers.

What we don’t know is when this will start, how long the construction will go on for and if it will create any disruptions during the process.

Admirals Club Miami Expansion: What’s Changing

American Airlines, as mentioned above, will also be working on its Admirals Club lounge at Miami international airport. The lounges have looser access criteria so they might be something more travelers are interested in. The current Admirals Club lounge at Miami international airport is situated at gate D30. That lounge will undergo an expansion which will increase by quite some margin the floorspace available.
