Cathay Pacific‘s journey to return to top dog status in international civil aviation has made significant leaps forward since borders reopened post-pandemic. The airline has modernized its fleet, ordered new aircraft and this year reopened its newly redesigned lounges at Hong Kong International Airport and now a second for the year at the strategically important Beijing Capital Airport.

Cathay Pacific Beijing Lounge Overview: What’s New in 2025

After having unveiled, earlier this year, its new lounges for premium travelers in Hong Kong International Airport Cathay Pacific has now opened a second lounge for 2025 in Beijing Capital Airport (PEK). A presentation event was held on August 15th at Beijing Capital Airport to present the new space.

This is a strategic asset in a strategically important airport. Cathay operates 7 daily flights to Beijing every day of the week, mostly operated using wide body aircraft. That translates to thousands of seats offered and hundreds of premium cabin passengers on the route.

That, in turn, boils down to the need for a dedicated space for premium cabin passengers that is up to speed with what are current worldwide standards. That’s the primary reason for Cathay Pacific investing in the renovation of one of its 2 mainland China airport lounges (the other located at Shanghai International Airport).

Key Features and Investment Details

The Beijing Capital Airport Cathay Pacific Lounge renovation is part of a much larger long term investment plan by the Hong Kong carrier. Cathay is investing in excess of US$12 billion in new aircraft, cabin interior upgrades and lounges in the coming years. All in the effort to return to ranking among the top airlines globally in terms of comfort and quality.

The new Cathay Pacific lounge at Beijing Capital Airport closely follows the design philosophy introduced in Hong Kong’s premium cabin lounges. We’ll get into the details of what that means for passengers departing PEK on Cathay flight shortly.

Beijing Capital Airport Lounge Design and Layout

The entire lounge has been redesigned from the ground up. There is little left of what the lounge used to be. As seen with the new Cathay Pacific lounges at Hong Kong International Airport, premium materials such as cherry wood and limestone are present throughout the lounge giving it a luxurious look and feel.

Off the bat the first difference to the prior layout you’ll encounter is the entrance. No longer is there a counter, which has gone out out of fashion as a concept, in its place are two podium style structures where ground staff will welcome and greet you. Additionally, this is the first lounge outside of Hong Kong to have Lounge Ambassadors present at the entrance.

As you make your way into the lounge you’ll enter the main lounge area, as the airline calls it. An area with ample seating options to relax or get some work done while on the go. The airline describes this space as offering: “furniture and lighting that are purposefully placed to deliver the ambiance and comfort of a refined home”.

Within the main lounge area are also more secluded sections which ensure greater privacy for those who value that more.

Dining Options at Cathay Pacific Beijing Lounge

Dining where you can easily make or break the lounge experience. A fantastic lounge with bad food will not leave a positive impression. On the contrary, an average lounge with outstanding food will leave a lasting impression.

From the looks of it Cathay Pacific has thought this through. The new Cathay Pacific lounge at Beijing Capital Airport has three food propositions. There should be something to win anyone over.

Among the main attractions, in terms of dining, is of course the noodle bar. The noodle bar area comes with long communal tables. However, the noodle bar will also offer a local speciality which is not available in other Cathay lounges: Beijing bean paste noodles (which I’ve tasted the Korean version of, it is a taste that takes time to grow on you as a westerner).

Along with the Noodle Bar there will be, of course international options and Chinese cuisine favorites. Finally to top it all off a selection of premium Chinese teas freshly brewed to order by Cathay Pacific’s tea specialists.

Lounge Access and Amenities Guide

Finally, this sleek new Cathay Pacific lounge at Beijing Capital Airport features a relaxing open ceiling verandah. A space to relax in and indulge in the lounge’s atmosphere, where you can experience the airline’s bespoke multi-functional Solo Chairs.

Be traveling business class on a departing Cathay Pacific flight or oneworld airline
