Greenland and Air Greenland Have a New Airport and Home in Nuuk

Greenland is one of the countries with the most hostile climate to man on the plane. Despite that humans still manage to live there. One of the main issues of living in Greenland is getting supplies in and people in and out of the island. Weather can be very challenging in that part of the world, which also makes construction of key strategic infrastructure quite complicated too. Just as it was complicated to build and bring into operation the new Nuuk international airport with its improved runway. Nonetheless Greenland has its new airport and Air Greenland has a new home.

A New Airport For Greenland and Air Greenland

Greenland's capital, Nuuk, finally has its new airport which will allow to welcome flights from more distant destinations as well as having more stable and reliable connectivity to the outside world. The new airport's key feature is its 2,200 meter long runway which will facilitate the arrival and departure of larger planes on a full load. Planes such as the flag carrier's Airbus A330-800. Air Greenland's flagship will now serve year-round flights to Europe.

The Airline's New Destination Network – Thanks To The New Runway

The new runway and airport are of strategic importance to Greenland as a whole. Thanks to its improved navigation systems, flights will arrive more predictably at Nuuk international airport with less diversions. Supplies will arrive with greater consistency and trade should also pick up, Also during the summer months there might be a higher influx of tourists coming to discover an uncharted destination, thanks to new flights by Air Greenland and other carriers too.

Air Greenland has announced that its flagship plane, the A330-800, will be operating daily services to Copenhagen year-round. Alongside that service Air Greenland will operate a turboprop service to much closer Reykjavik in Iceland.

As a result of the new and improved airport, Air Greenland won't be the only kid on the block in summer 2025. Nuuk international airport will see flights from at least two other carriers, namely United Airlines and SAS. United will fly to Nuuk on a twice per week frequency from Newark starting June 14th 2025 while SAS will start it three times weekly service to Nuuk on June 27th 2025.

Busy times ahead at Nuuk International Airport!

I have developed my passion into a deep knowledge of the sector and industry to offer on my sites in depth and precise analyses of what is going on. I also completed cabin crew training with Ryanair, however, I never worked for the company (more on that another time). Finally I also have taken flying lessons completing my first solo flights.
