Cathay Pacific North America

Cathay Pacific Branches Out in the US With New Dallas Fort Worth Route

Despite having an extremely tough time during the pandemic and downsizing its operations Cathay Pacific is in quite a good financial shape right now. The airline has been able to shed much of its excess costs transforming itself into a much more streamlined and profitable enterprise. 2024 so far has been a year in which the airline has started expanding once again and returning to destinations it was forced to abandon in 2020. The latest destination the airline has announced it will be adding to its network in coming months is Dallas Fort Worth.

Dallas to Become Cathay Pacific’s Eighth North American Destination

Cathay Pacific has been working relentlessly to rebuild its route network. The airline has a lot of ground to make up, as it stood still much longer than its peers due to travel restrictions in Hong Kong imposed by mainland China. The latest route network expansion announcement involves the United States, more precisely Dallas Fort Worth (DFW). The Hong Kong based airline has already flights serving the Texan airport; however, those are all cargo service. CX898 will be the first passenger service.

The flight will operate under number CX898, with the first service scheduled for April 24th 2025, and will be a 4x weekly service with flights active every:

  • Monday
  • Tuesday
  • Thursday
  • Saturday

Due to the crossing of the international date line this is a wacky flight in terms of timings and scheduling. What I mean by that is that the outbound flight arrives just about 2 hours after departure time and the return flight arrives 2 days after the departure date.

Also, Dallas will be Cathay’s eighth north American destination. The airline already operates 2 to Canada and 5 to the United States, namely:

  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Los Angeles
  • New York
  • San Francisco
  • Toronto
  • Vancouver

The Airbus A350-1000 Is the Aircraft of Choice

The aircraft for this new Hong Kong to Dallas Fort Worth flight CX898 is the airline’s most advanced aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000. Therefore, we can say with all certainty that there won’t be any first class cabins aboard this service. Cathay Pacific in fact, configured its A350-1000s with a 3 class layout featuring:

  • 46 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout
  • 32 Premium Economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout
  • 256 Economy Class seats in a standard 3-3-3 layout

Little pro tip, try to get your hands on seats 60A or 60K when travelling economy. They are located behind an emergency exit row and have no seat in front of them, ergo unlimited leg room.
