Cathay Pacific Expands to More Passengers Its Complimentary Wi-Fi

Onboard Wi-Fi connectivity has become, in these closing months of 2024, the hot topic for airlines. Carriers around the world are rushing to get their planes equipped not only with internet connectivity but a high-speed option to keep passengers connected throughout their journey. Cathay Pacific hasn’t announced any major changes in its internet connectivity in the coming months, however, it is changing the number of passengers that can access it free of cost on its flights. Here’s how and who will get complimentary internet access on Cathay Pacific.

Cathay Pacific Expands Who Gets Complimentary Onboard Internet

Starting September 2024 Cathay pacific has expanded which passengers can access free of charge the onboard internet. Previously only First Class passengers had complimentary access, however, now also passengers travelling in business class can access free of charge.

Trials took place on a selection of flights, presumably to ensure that the bandwidth would be sufficient to keep all passengers surfing the internet with no hiccups.

Compared to what we are seeing other airlines install on their planes it does seem not as powerful though. Air France and United Airlines are installing Starlink systems and Delta T-Mobile’s. Both will enable passengers to also stream video and connect multiple devices. Cathay Pacific’s complimentary internet will only allow one device to access the internet at the time and there is no mention of video streaming.

Soon Diamond Frequent Flyers Will Get Complimentary Access Too

In addition to passengers flying in First and Business Class, soon even Diamond frequent flyers, regardless of travel class, will also have access to the in-flight internet connectivity. Starting November 2024 these high tier frequent flyers will be able to access just as First and Business Class passenger to the onboard Wi-Fi also with the same limitations.

All other passengers will still have to pay to access the in-flight internet at these rates:

  • For flights under 6 hours 12.95$ USD
  • For flights over 6 hours 19.95$ USD
  • One hour of internet access 9.95$ USD
