China’s aviation industry is slowly coming back to life after a very long hibernation period. Only in 2023 has the Asian country truly opened it borders and allowed it citizens to finally roam the world once again. As this happens new routes are launched and other ones that had been suspended are resumed. The latter option is the case for the flight I’ll be talking about in this post. China Southern is finally resuming flights to Brisbane, Australia. Let’s find out more about this news and how the service will operate.
Why Is The China Southern Airlines Flight From Guangzhou to Brisbane Important?
There are a couple of reasons that make this China Southern service resumption important. First of all let’s look at things on from the Australian standpoint:
- China was the largest market for incoming tourists to Brisbane and Queensland. Currently tourist numbers sit at just 12% of pre-covid figures. Therefore this flight will help recover lost ground.
- China is a important export market for Australian goods. The extra cargo hold capacity will allow to boost local businesses.
However this is a significant service even if we look at it from the Chinese point of view. The fact that this flight will be once again reinforces the message of how it is now possible and allowed for Chinese travellers to roam. From the Chinese point of view it is more of a symbolic meaning, although it also enables travellers to visit one of their favourite travel destinations.

The resuming China Southern Airlines flight CZ381 from the airline’s base in Guangzhou to Brisbane will kick off as a 4 times weekly service. However it is in plan to bring the service to a daily frequency within the next two years.
The China Southern flight will operate the Guangzhou to Brisbane route every:

With the schedule for the service being:
