Why JAL’s New Flight to Doha is a Special One

As part of the airline post covid recovery along with seeing many paused routes coming back online, we’re also seeing many new routes being launched. Many airlines are eyeing new opportunities in areas of the world they didn’t serve before. This is exactly the case with the route I’ll be covering in this post. Today we’re talking about JAL (Japan Airlines) flight Tokyo to Doha and why it’s a special one.

Why Is the New JAL Tokyo to Doha Flight Special?

Although many gulf airlines connect the middle east region to countries in the far east, such as Japan, there still isn’t a single Japanese carrier offering flights. Yes that’s righe no Japanese airline flies direct flights from anywhere in Japan to the middle east.

Therefore JAL’s new Tokyo Haneda to Doha flight will be the first of its type. Japan Airlines will be the trailblazer in connecting these two regions in terms of Japanese carries.

Which Airline Already Covers The Tokyo Haneda to Doha Route?

This specific route is already covered and served by another airline. As a matter of fact it is none other than one of JAL fellow Oneworld airlines, specifically Qatar Airways.

The Qatari flag carrier operates daily flights from and to both of Tokyo’s major international airports:

  • Tokyo Haneda (HND)
  • Tokyo Narita (NRT)

These flights are operated in codeshare with JAL and will continue to be so even after Japan Airlines launches its own flight in 2024.

When Will The JAL Tokyo to Doha Flight Launch?

We’re still laking some details on this new flight, however we do know that:

  • Services will start in Summer of 2024.
  • The JAL flight will be a daily connection from Tokyo Haneda to Doha
