Jetstar, Qantas‘ low cost subsidiary, has just struck a game changing deal with Brisbane international airport. This deal will bring significant changes to operations in Queensland’s capital airport. In coming months Jetstar (IATA code JQ) will power up and launch a significant amount of flights from (BNE) Brisbane international airport. Here’s all about what the airline has planned.
Which Jetstar Flights From Brisbane (BNE) Will Change?
To be precise, two flights will start operations between late 2023 and early 2024, while other 3 will see a substantial capacity increase in that same time lapse.
Jetstar will launch the following new services:
Flight Number | Departure Airport | Airport Code | Arrival Airport | Airport Code | Country | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
JQ9 | Brisbane | BNE | Tokyo Narita | NRT | Japan | |
JQ53 | Brisbane | BNE | Seoul Incheon | ICN | South Korea |
The Narita flight is marked as a new flight, however it is more of a relocation of the flight currently operating out of Gold Coast International Airport (OOL). The flight from the Gold Coast to Narita will stop flying on October 29th. This is a direct result of the deal that the airline signed with the Brisbane airport authorities.
Also this means that maintenance facilities previously located in Gold Coast International Airport will be relocated and consolidated in Brisbane international airport (BNE).
The airline will on the other hand increase frequency of its services to:
Flight Number | Departure Airport | Airport Code | Arrival Airport | Airport Code | Country | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
JQ23 | Brisbane | BNE | Osaka Kansai | KIX | Japan | |
JQ59 | Brisbane | BNE | Bali Denpasar | DPS | Indonesia | |
JQ149 | Brisbane | BNE | Auckland | AKL | New Zealand |

The Plane Types Chosen For These Jetstar Flights?
Jetstar will deploy on the 3 longer routes its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. The three routes being:
- Osaka (BNE-KIX)
- Tokyo Narita (BNE-NRT)
- Seoul Incheon (BNE-ICN)
The Jetstar Boeing 787-8 is configured in a 2 class cabin layout featuring:
- 21 Business Class Seats (made by Recaro) in 2-3-2 layout
- 314 Economy Class Seats (made by Collins Aerospace) in a 3-3-3 layout
On the shorter routes the airline will be deploying its brand new state of the art Airbus A321neo LR. These planes are the go to choice for many airlines on medium and long haul flights. They are easy to fill and offer an extraordinary fuel efficiency.
Jetstar configured its Airbus A321neo LR with 232 Economy class seats. Keep in mind that not all fares with Jetstar include meal service aboard so make sure to pre-order or book a fare that includes it.
Airbus A321neo LR The Jetstar Future Fleet Backbone
The Airbus A321neo will little by little become Jetstar’s fleet backbone. The airline has already received a handful of the type, with the latest one arriving from Europe in mid June 2023, and plans to receive further 18 of the type by the end of 2024.
The plane is the perfect match for low cost carriers such as JQ. It allows airlines to serve profitably routes with limited demand achieving high load factors. Therefore many previously unviable routes will become a thing of the past.
