A strategic move to stay competitive in Europe’s most lucrative business travel market

London Heathrow, year after year confirms itself as Europe's busiest airport. It also is the airport with the strongest sustained demand for transatlantic travel. The French carrier is planning to open its newly renovated lounge at Heathrow to remain an enticing travel option for those many transatlantic frequent travelers.

Design and Experience: What to Expect from the New Lounge

The lounge will cover a total floorspace of 750 square meters. That will be enough to accomodate up to 150 passengers at any given time. If that sounds like a lot of capacity, it is.

Simply put Air France needs such a large lounge as it operates 7 daily flights from London Heathrow alone. Not to mention that Air France starting March 29th 2026 will also commence operating flights to London Gatwick, further increasing capacity offered to the Greater London area.

The lounge itself will be perfectly aligned with the Air France brand identity. Grey, blue and red will be present in every corner of the lounge creating that unmistakable Air France look and feel.

Travelers will have access to fine French dining at the new Air France London Heathrow lounge along with a spacious bar and a selection of French wines and Champagnes.

Why London Heathrow Matters Strategically for Air France-KLM

Despite attempts by other continental European airports to challenge its dominance, London Heathrow remains the leading airport by passenger volume in the region. It is also the leading airport by passenger volumes on the extremely lucrative transatlantic flight segment.

What makes transatlantic flights very attractive for airlines is the high number of business and frequent flyers. BA knows this and protects its turf aggressively. However, it is also something other carriers also know very well and want to capitalize on too.

Air France operates multiple daily flights from London Heathrow, making a dedicated premium lounge a strategic necessity.

Among them Air France knows exactly how important London originating traffic can be for its bottom line. And with that in mind it is preparing to open its newly renovated premium airport lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 4.

Where the New Air France Lounge Will Be Located at Heathrow?

The newly renovated Air France London Heathrow lounge will be in the airport's Terminal 4. The terminal is the home not only to Air France but also to its sister airline KLM and the SkyTeam airline alliance as a whole.

Who Will Have Access to the New Air France Heathrow Lounge?

  • La Première
  • Business (excluding those on the light fare type)
  • Flying Blue Elite Plus

Air France doesn't fly any wide body planes to London Heathrow meaning that La Premiere passengers would be those transiting in Paris CDG onto a flight fitted with such travel class.

Business Light fare is the cheapest fare in the premium cabin and when booking it clearly states that lounge access is not included. So make sure to check when booking.

Finally, Flying Blue Elite Plus are passengers holding a gold or higher Air France loyalty program status.
