Following Delta and United Airlines‘ that are in the process of installing high-speed broadband internet connectivity on their planes, Air France too is moving in this direction. Next year, 2025, will be the year the French flag carrier will bring a major connectivity upgrade to its inflight connectivity offering. Here’s how and when it’ll all happen.
Air France Too Opts For Starlink In-Flight Connectivity Services
Delta, as covered in this other post, is partnering with T-Mobile to fit its planes with broadband internet connectivity, United on the other hand is going with Starlink. Air France won’t be following its SkyTeam partner airline in this choice. It will be instead, opting to install, just like United, Starlink internet connectivity services on its planes.
The plan is to start equipping its planes with the systems to enable Starlink connectivity starting summer 2025. It’ll be a major upgrade in terms of passenger experience throughout the fleet. The airline is in fact planning to install the upgraded internet connectivity on all of its planes, including regional jets. Therefore there will be a service consistency across all Air France flights.
It will take some time though to have all planes fully equipped. So, it probably won’t be until 2026 when all planes will be enabled to offer the new service.
Who and How Will Get Access to the New Onboard Internet Service
The new Starlink provided internet connectivity will allow for multiple devices per passengers to connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi. Its speed will allow to stream video on personal devices and remain productive while onboard.
Air France-KLM frequent flyer program Flying Blue members of all tiers will get access the free messaging package. That means that simply by signing up to Flying Blue you will get access to somewhat connectivity. However, it also means that you must be signed up to access the internet.
Other packages with full access to the internet will be made available to passengers upon payment. The only passengers who will not have to pay for their internet and will, therefore, have complimentary unlimited acess are those travelling in La Premiere (First Class).
