SAS has been quite active in recent months reinstating and opening more and more routes. The airline’s attention has been quite focused on flights to the US, even operating narrow body flights, and to Asia. The new service we’re talking about today is to the latter of the 2 continents. A Strong Focus on Asia For SAS
SAS was one of the first European airlines to pounce on the chance to reopen flights to China when travel restrictions were lifted in 2022 with flights to Shanghai. In June the Scandinavian airline will also resume flights to Japan flying on a weekly basis to Tokyo Haneda.
The new Copenhagen Bangkok SAS flight will be the third major connection between Asia that the Scandinavian carrier has opened or brought back post covid. SK973 will also not be a daily flight. The flight will operate 3 times per week, here’s how and its peculiarities.

The flight will be part of the SAS 2023 winter network, along with the Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai services. Bangkok and Thailand are a very popular winter destination for European holiday makers, and this flight caters specifically to this crow. Flights be available starting October 30th 2023 and will operate 3 times per week with the following schedule:
Copenhagen (CPH) –> Bangkok (BKK)
Flights departing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
- Flights will depart Copenhagen (CPH) at 23:30 arriving into Bangkok (BKK) at 17:05 the next day.
Bangkok (BKK) –> Copenhagen (CPH)
Flights departing every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
- Flights will depart Bangkok (BKK) at 23:45 arriving into Copenhagen (CPH) at 06:35 the next morning.
What I think is a very nice touch by SAS on this new Copenhagen to Bangkok flight is that both sectors are overnight flights. As a traveller I particularly appreciate this as you can get a good night sleep and get on to a productive day once arrived at destination. Also I’ve always found it easier to adapt to the new time zone when travelling on overnight flights.
Bangkok Bound Aboard the A350-900
The A350 has gradually become the go to solution for long range flights such as SK973 from Europe to Asia.
