Why Not Many Airlines Fly To Florence
Although Florence is one of Italy’s largest cities not many airlines operate in and out of its airport. First of all because of the size of Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence. The airport isn’t particularly big and its runway can’t accomodate large planes.
Also as Florence is well connected to Rome, Milan and Bologna via high speed rail, often airlines opt to fly into one of these cities airports. Rome, Milan and Bologna all have large international airports capable of handling larger aircraft and volumes of flights.
About The British Airways London Heathrow Florence Flight
Despite Florence not being one of the main airports in Italy, British Airways definitely see an opportunity in this destination. Particularly for passengers connecting in Heathrow from Asia and North America, making their way to Italy.
The flight will start operations on the April 16th 2023 and will connect Heathrow to Florence for the duration of the summer season. Flight number BA525 will have a daily frequency allowing passengers to connect from any other flight on the British Airways or OneWorld network.
