HiFly Expands Fleet With 2 Additional A330 Planes

Just as airlines are powering up their fleets even leasing companies are doing the same. However the company we’re talking about today is more of hybrid between an airline and a leasing company. Today we’re taking a closer look at HiFly acquiring further 2 Airbus A330-200 to expand its fleet.

HiFly Receives 2 Additional A330s

HiFly just announced it has acquired two new aircraft to further expand its fleet. In line with its moves in recent years the planes are once again wide body jets. Specifically the airline has received 2 Airbus A330-200s which will fly with registration numbers:

  • 9H-HFK
  • 9H-HFJ

Of the former we don’t have all that much information available, while the latter plane we know is a 15 year old jet. It was originally operated by Kingfisher Airlines. It later moved on to operate to Turkish Airlines, GullivAir and TUI.

Both planes are configured with a 2 class layout featuring 18 Business class seats and 251 in Economy Class. Business class will be in a 2-2-2 layout while economy class in a standard 2-4-2 layout.

What Does Hi-Fly Do?

HiFly is a wet leasing specialised operator. Which means they have their own fleet of aircraft and their own crew, just as any normal airline but then they rent out their planes fully staffed to carriers. They cater to those airlines who find them selves suddenly in need of planes, by filling that void.

The airline as mentioned owns a fleet of mainly wide body planes and had become know worldwide for its A380 which it got rid of in 2020 when it returned it to the lessor. The HiFly A380 was the only aircraft of that type to be put up for wet lease. That investment never really took off or paid dividends for the wet lease company.
