ITA Airways as most international carriers interrupted it services from its main hub to Israel amidst the tensions within the Gaza strip and with Lebanon and Iran. Safety is always the first concern for airlines, and it couldn’t be guaranteed at that time. Now things seem to be a little more under control, at least in the skies over Israel. Therefore airlines, as ITA Airways, are resuming their services to Tel-Aviv Ben Gurion international airport.
ITA Airways Resumes Flights on Rome Fiumicino Tel-Aviv Route
The Italian flag carrier had identified AZ806 flight from Rome Fiumicino to Tel-Aviv as the launch service for its fantastic new A321neo. This aircraft, despite being a narrow body features a stunning 3 class configuration with lie-flat beds in Business class. However, that plan didn’t get off to a great start as just before the aircraft was to enter service AZ806 and AZ810 were suspended. The aircraft only served the route for a limited amount of time before another suspension arrived in early August.
Finally, though the Italian airline is back. AZ806 is once again a daily service from Rome Fiumicino to Tel-Aviv. The flight is active starting today, September 5th 2024. Until September 30th, AZ806 will be the sole ITA Airways flight to Tel-Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport. October 1st will see a second daily flight take off with AZ810 serving a redeye timing flying through the night.
Clearly the airline will be monitoring how geopolitical tensions evolve in the region. If safety and security can’t be guaranteed be prepared for new flight suspensions. So, just keep that in mind if you are about to book a flight on these services.
First Flight Diverts to Amman, Jordan
Everything didn’t exactly go to plan on the first service between Rome Fiumicino and Tel-Aviv today. The first flight to serve AZ806 in quite some time, first took off 39 minutes late from Italy and then didn’t land in Tel-Aviv. It instead diverted to Amman in Jordan.
Still it isn’t clear what forced the aircraft to divert to the nearby Jordanian capital. The plane, however, as it approached the costs of Israel seems to have entered a holding patterns to then land in its alternate airport. Only later did the plane make its way to Tel-Aviv and eventually back to ITA’s base in Rome.
