As we leave the busy summer season behind and start concentrating on the winter and Christmas season, airlines such as Lufthansa are already looking to 2024 and how they will further enhance their offering to passengers. In the case of the german flag carrier the airline is planning a big power up of its operation on a global scale, although most new entries will be services to the United States. So here’s the lowdown on how Lufthansa will increase its destinations and flights in 2024 from both Frankfurt and Munich.
Lufthansa’s New Destinations for 2024
To make it all a little easier to follow, I’ll split the new coming services to Lufthansa’s destination network in 2024 by base: Frankfurt and Munich.

New Flights from Frankfurt
Frankfurt will be getting 2 new services with are quite strategic for the German market:
- Minneapolis (MSP) – Starting June 4th 2024
- Raleigh-Durham (RDU) – Starting June 6th 2024
The reason they are strategic is that Minneapolis is one of the major hubs in the US midwest allowing to transfer to a vast selection of destinations. On the other hand Raleigh-Durham is home to the US headquarters of many German companies, therefore business travel is on quite high demand for this otherwise not very popular destination.
Also Hyderabad which got its first Lufthansa services in 2023 will continue to be part of the german carrier’s network in 2024.
As for the schedule of the two flights, here’s how they’ll work. The Frankfurt to Minneapolis flight will operate 5 times per week with services every:
- Monday
- Tuesday
- Thursday
- Saturday
- Sunday
Flight | From | To | Departs | Arrives | Aircraft Type | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LH482 | Frankfurt (FRA) | Minneapolis (MSP) | 11:10 | 13:15 | 787-9 | |
LH483 | Minneapolis (MSP) | Frankfurt (FRA) | 15:15 | 06:40 | 787-9 |
Flights from Frankfurt to Raleigh-Durham will also operate on a 5 times weekly schedule with connections available every:
- Monday
- Tuesday
- Thursday
- Friday
- Saturday
Flight | From | To | Departs | Arrives | Aircraft Type | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LH408 | Frankfurt (FRA) | Raleigh-Durham (RDU) | 10:20 | 13:50 | A330-300 | |
LH409 | Raleigh-Durham (RDU) | Frankfurt (FRA) | 15:50 | 06:15+1 | A330-300 |
New Lufthansa Flights from Munich For 2024
The destination network expansion will be even more extensive in Munich as there will be 3 new intercontinental flights taking off ahead of summer 2024:
- Hong Kong – Starting date unknown
- Seattle – Starting May 30th 2024
- Johannesburg – Starting June 3rd 2024
We still don’t know any details of the Munich to Hong Kong Lufthansa flight. However we do know that Munich to Seattle flights will operate from the get go on a daily basis, while Johannesburg will be receiving 3 weekly flights from LH’s second largest hub, every:
- Monday
- Thursday
- Saturday
So here’s how Lufthansa’s LH578 Munich to Johannesburg flight will operate:
Flight | From | To | Departs | Arrives | Aircraft Type | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LH578 | Munich (MUC) | Johannesburg (JNB) | 19:15 | 05:40+1 | A350-900 | |
LH579 | Johannesburg (JNB) | Munich (MUC) | 09:00 | 19:30 | A350-900 |
While here’s how LH488 will operate between Munich and Seattle:
Flight | From | To | Departs | Arrives | Aircraft Type | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LH488 | Munich (MUC) | Seattle (SEA) | 15:30 | 16:55 | A350-900 | |
LH489 | Seattle (SEA) | Munich (MUC) | 18:50 | 13:45+1 | A350-900 |
Also just as seen in Frankfurt’s case, an Indian destination will become an all round service. For Munich that will be the tech capital of Bangalore.
More Lufthansa A380s and A380 Destinations in 2024
Lufthansa, as many other airlines around the world, is struggling to keep up with capacity demands on many sectors. Therefore they are backtracking on their decision of retiring the Airbus A380. The airline has been bringing back more and more planes of the type and will have 6 A380s stationed in Munich in 2024 and 8 in 2025. As a result of this re-introduction of these extra A380s Lufthansa will start serving Washington DC and Delhi to the Jumbo’s destination network.
