Where do The Lufthansa Airbus A380 Fly in 2024?

Many airlines found themselves in the position of having to cope with much higher figures than anticipated in the post covid era. This brought many carriers into a capacity crisis, which forced them to bring back larger airliners such as the A380. Among the airlines that own A380s that had initially planned to retire the aircraft type is Lufthansa. So now that the Lufthansa Airbus A380 is making a comeback in 2023, let’s find out where they will be flying the jets.

The Lufthansa A380 Fleet

Although far from Emirates like figures, in terms of Airbus A380s owned, Lufthansa owns 9 of the aircraft type. The airline is one of the 9 carriers that bought into the project. The 11 Lufthansa A380 planes are registered as follows:

  • D-AIMA
  • D-AIMB

  • D-AIMD
  • D-AIME
  • D-AIMG
  • D-AIMH

However the airline isn’t currently flying all of these planes, that during covid had been relegated to desert storage. 6 out of the total 11 planes are currently out of storage.

  • D-AIMM

  • D-AIMN
  • D-AIMB (in Manila for servicing to re-start operations)

The LH Cabin Configuration

All 9 Lufthansa Airbus A380 share the same cabin configuration. They all feature 4 classes of travel with:

  • 8 First Class Suites
  • 78 Business Class Seats
  • 52 Premium Economy Class Seats
  • 371 Economy Class Seats

Not all classes have a particularly comfortable layout for passengers on the Lufthansa Airbus A380s. First Class has a spacious and comfortable suite layout of 1-2-1. However Business Class is not as comfortable as it features a very dense 2-2-2 layout that doesn’t grant direct aisle access to every seat. Premium Economy also features a quite dense setup with 8 seats abreast in a 2-4-2 layout.

Finally Economy class offers the classic and standard 10 abreast 3-4-3 layout common to all Airbus A380s.
