Luxair Orders 4 Embaer E195-E2 With Options For 5 More

Big orders from the largest airlines around the world catch the attention however orders from smaller quirkier airlines are just as interesting. In today’s post we’re talking about one of the tiniest airlines in Europe placing an oder for some truly state of the art new generation planes. Let’s take a closer look at Luxair’s order with Embraer for E195 jets.

The Luxair Embraer E195 Order

Luxair is by no means a powerhouse of European aviation, nonetheless the carrier is an important lifeline of connectivity for the small country it calls home, Luxembourg. The airline connects the Grand Duchy to some of Europe’s financial and industrial key cities. For an airline of this size and Luxembourg as a whole high capacity planes are not exactly a priority, while efficiency and high profitability are. Therefore it makes perfect sense that Luxair has just ordered one of the most fuel efficient short range planes available on the market: the Embraer E195-E2.

The order Luxair placed with the Brazilian manufacturer will see at least 4 new Embraer E195-E2 jets join the airline’s fleet. However the carrier has secured the possibility of further expanding the order with extra 5 planes if it deems this necessary.

Finally Luxair also secured a certain flexibility in this order as it has the right to convert part of these additional planes it has options over into smaller E190-E2 jets.

First deliveries of the new Embraer E195-E2 planes are scheduled as soon as 2025 Q2.

A Win Win Deal for Both Sides

So all in all a good deal for both sided, the airline and the manufacturer. The airline secured an order for much needed new generation planes which will help enhance the airline’s network fill a fleet void it has between the much larger Boeing 737s and the tiny turboprop DHC-8. Embraer on the other side secures itself another customer to sell E2 family jets to.

Luxair Wet Lease Free

As mentioned above Luxair has a bit of a void in its fleet when it comes to medium to small capacity jets. They currently own Boeing 737-800s, and have orders for Boeing 737 MAX, which they operate along the small turbo prop DGC-8. They don’t own any planes anywhere in between these two sizes. Therefore in years of higher demand, such as 2023, they have been forced to wet lease planes such as the Embraer E190 from German Airways at a substantial cost. Receiving these new planes will free the small European carrier from this situation for the foreseeable future.
