SAS, or Scandinavian Airlines, is one of the most interesting airlines in Europe for one simple reason. The carrier is the joint flag carrier of 3 countries:

  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • Denmark

In a similar way to how Gulf Air used to be the flag carrier for a number of airlines in the Gulf region before it remained so only for Bahrain.

The airline is a founding member of the Star Alliance, however, in September 2024 the carrier has decided to leave the group and join Skyteam. This follows the investment in the company by Air France-KLM which took the Scandinavian carrier out of a difficult situation.
