SAS just recently made what was a historical switch over from Star Alliance to SkyTeam. It was that important as never before had a founder member had left its alliance to move over to a rival camp. Nonetheless that is exactly what happened on September 1st, 2024. Ahead of that switch Scandinavian had also struck a codeshare deal with its new investor and Europe’s main Skyteam member, Air France-KLM. Now SAS sealed another codeshare deal with another heavyweight in the Skyteam alliance.
Scandinavian Airlines Signs a Codeshare Agreement with Delta Air Lines
After Air France-KLM, Scandinavian seals a codeshare agreement with the other major name in the SkyTeam alliance, Delta. This codeshare agreement is quite important for the Scandinavian carrier as it further integrates it into the new alliance’s ecosystem.
From September 25th moving forward passengers will be able to travel seamlessly transferring across Delta, Air France, KLM, and SAS flights. The agreement, therefore, allows to travel seamlessly on SAS transferring onto these airlines with one flight reservation.
Also, the agreement is completed by reciprocal frequent flyer benefits being recognised to travellers loyal to either airline. Therefore, SAS passengers will have priority check-in and boarding, lounge access, and will also earn miles on Delta flights and viceversa.
Things Though Had Already Started Moving with Delta
Although the codeshare agreement announcement only arrived now, it was very easily predictable that it would come to be. This January Scandinavian had announced its intention to start flying non-stop from its base in Copenhagen to Atlanta. That is no random destination, aside from being the world’s busiest airport, it is nonother than Delta’s home airport where the American carrier has its HQ with most of its domestic transiting here.
The flight commenced operations on Jun 17th, 2024, and was a clear clue as to how the airline was looking and hoping to get more involved with Delta. It’s, therefore, no surprise that the carrier has now reached this kind of deal with one of the most influential airlines in North American and the world.
