We all know about Rudolph the red nose reindeer, but have you head of the red nose aircraft? Well to give a more festive touch to its fleet ahead of the Christmas festivities, this is exactly what you might happen to see in Zurich International Airport (ZRH). Let’s talk about what SWISS calls LXmas.
The SWISS Red Nose Airplanes
I have to say this is a very cute and fun initiative that the Helvetic airline has undertaken. Playing with the its aircraft colours, which are all white with red details, they have decided to give them a red nose. They are in a way the Rudolph planes in the SWISS fleet.
The two planes chosen for this initiative are an A340-300 and an A320-200, with registration number:
- HB-JMA – the A340-300
- HB-IJJ – the A320-200
These two jets already got they weather radar dome, nose, painted in red and will be flying across Europe and the worldwide SWISS network bringing a smile to all travellers.
You’ll be likely to spot the A340-300 at Hong Kong or Shanghai international airports mainly.

What Else is LXMas About?
The airline cleverly played with its flight code giving it a festive twist. The airline’s flight code is LX so they just appended to it mas to create LXMas.
During the festive season the airline is setting up a raffle for both travellers and people staying at home. Some of the prises are quite unique. You might define them as an avgeek’s dream.
For instance one of the top prizes is a trip for 2 to Zurich with a special invitation to a Christmas event at ZRH international airport with an exclusive dinner under an airplane’s wing in one of the airline’s hangers at the airport. I know I would love to get my hands on that prize.
