In flight Wi-Fi is becoming a hotter topic as time goes on. More passengers, particularly business travellers, have grown to expect this service. Many, me included, like the down time a long-haul flight forces you to have. However, I also understand the massive pro that is being productive while travelling. Turkish Airlines is an airline that caters both to leisure and business travellers. Both crowds that love their internet connectivity. Therefore, the airline laid out its plan to enhance its onboard internet connectivity. Here’s how and when.
Turkish Airlines Plan for Free Onboard Wi-Fi
I’ve covered in another separate post which are the major airlines around the world offering complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity. Turkish Airlines isn’t one of those offering complimentary internet connectivity to all passengers, but only to premium travellers. However, the Turkish flag carrier has a plan in place to change that.
A remarkable retrofitting effort will have the airline installing on all its fleet new generation antennas to enable broadband internet connectivity aboard its planes. It’ll involve all planes, both narrow and wide bodies. Keep in mind that Turkish Airlines operates a fleet of over 330 planes. Therefore, this is no mean feat, and it will take some time to have the systems installed across the fleet.
When Will Turkish Offer Complimentary Wi-Fi an All Flights?
Turkish Airlines plans to have finished retrofitting all its planes with the latest IFC (in-flight connectivity) systems by the end of 2025. Therefore, that is also the period you should expect for the complimentary Wi-Fi to become available across the board.
Turkish Airlines has signed a MoU with TCI Aircraft Interiors and Turksat for this systems upgrade. It is, for the time being, a MoU, however, it does sound like something that will become reality.
