Air Arabia is quite the interesting airline. The carrier cut itself a space in the middle east aviation landscape differentiating from the other larger airlines by providing a cheap low-cost travel alternative transiting through Sharjah Airport. Their network has constantly grown over the year and has come to include destinations that stretch as far as central Europe. Their newest route expansion however is a leisure destination. Air Arabia will be starting flights to the Maldives later in 2024 commencing flight number G9091.
Air Arabia and its New G9091 Flight from Sharjah to the Maldives
The new flight will add another leisure destination to the airline’s network. The Maldives are a destination served by all other middle eastern carrier, albeit with a much more premium passenger focus. Air Arabia will add to the group of airlines flying to the island state with flight G9091.
The flight will start its operations on October 27th 2024 connecting Sharjah to Male international airport. The timing of the launch is ideal to intercept the uptick in holidaymakers from Europe during the winter months. The Maldives are in fact one of the most sought-after winter travel destinations for Europeans. Many carriers offer seasonal flights with the exact purpose to intercept this seasonal traffic.
From day one the flight will be immediately a daily service. That gives us an idea of how the airline thinks this service shouldn’t have too many issues in filling the planes. As for the schedule flight G9091 from Sharjah to Male will operate as follows:
Flight Number | Departure Airport | Airport Code | Departure Time | Arrival Airport | Airport Code | Arrival Time | Days | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
G9091 | Sharjah | SHJ | 08:00 | Male | MLE | 13:20 | Daily | |
G9092 | Male | MLE | 14:20 | Sharjah | SHJ | 17:55 | Daily |
As all flights G9091 will also be operated using one of Air Arabia’s many Airbus A320 planes. These planes have a very plain cabin configuration, as expectable from an LCC, with one travel class (economy) and seats in a 3-3 layout.
The Solution for Price Sensitive Leisure Travellers to the Maldives
This new flight is clearly intended to somehow go into competition with those offered by other middle eastern carriers and direct services by European carriers with a caveat though. The intent is to compete, however for a hugely different crowd.
Direct flights from Europe target passengers who value convenience and don’t mind spending more to get there faster. Stopover flights in the middle east target passengers who value comfort over travel time. Air Arabia’s crowd values ticket prices above convenience and travel time.
The airline’s operations, although not as big a scale, focus on offering passengers onwards connections via its hub in Sharjah to value oriented travellers. The new Air Arabia flight G9091 to the Maldives is no different and will broaden the portfolio of destinations the carrier can offer. Tickets are already on sale with a return flight from Europe (Bergamo for instance) costing around 580 Euro return.
