Emirates has historically had a strong presence in South Africa. The airline, more than any other carrier, serves the country’s major cities with at least one daily service. The Dubai based airline’s presence is only destined to get stronger as it prepares to add an additional frequency to its current schedule for Johannesburg. Here’s when, how and on which aircraft. Let’s take a closer look at how Emirates is updating its operations in South Africa.
Emirates Goes Fourth with Another Daily Flight to Johannesburg
The Blackadder fans will notice the reference in this paragraph’s title. That aside, Emirates is further investing in South Africa’s third largest city, making it though its most served destination in the country.
Johannesburg will become starting March 1st 2025 a four times daily service for the Dubai based airline. No other city in South Africa has as many daily flights.
The new service will have flight number EK767 and will be a night service from Dubai and becoming an early morning service from Johannesburg. The full schedule the new EK767 flight will be as follows:
Flight | From | To | Departs | Arrives | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
EK767 | Dubai (DXB) | Johannesburg (JNB) | 00:10 | 06:20 | |
EK767 | Johannesburg (JNB) | Dubai (DXB) | 10:15 | 20:15 |
As all Emirates flights departing and arriving in Dubai, EK767 too is optimised to allow seamless transfers from inbound Asian and European flights.
Just for reference of how many more flights Emirates has to Johannesburg, here’s the other South African destinations served with daily flights:
- Durban – 1 Daily flight.
- Cape Town – 2 Daily flights.
The weakness and almost total lack of a flag carrier in the country makes it an extremely attractive market for airlines such as Emirates. The only competition the airline has to deal with is that of other Middle Eastern and European carriers.
Balancing A380 and 777 Johannesburg Services
Emirates’ new EK767 flight from Dubai to Johannesburg will become the airline’s second Boeing 777-300ER services on the route. Therefore, the airline will have two Airbus A380 flights and another two Boeing 777 flights. That is a huge amount of capacity available every single day on this route that is very lucrative, not only for passenger operations but also for hold cargo transported.
Flight Number | Aircraft Type |
---|---|
EK767 | Boeing 777-300ER |
EK762 | Airbus A380 |
EK764 | Airbus A380 |
EK766 | Boeing 777-300ER |
