Similarly to what the other major UAE carrier, Etihad, did just a few month ago Emirates is changing its onboard WiFi access rules. Moving onwards a much vaster user base will be allowed to use free of charge the internet connectivity aboard EK flights. Let’s take a closer look at how internet access on Emirates flights will change.
Internet Access For All on Emirates Flights?
Well, not exactly. It’ll be more on the lines of internet access for almost everyone on Emirates flights. Just as done by Etihad little more than a month ago, EK will be making its basic internet plan free for all Skywards Blue members. The basic plan being the messaging app plan.
Skywards Blue is the entry level status of Emirates‘ frequent flyer programme. Therefore anyone that signs up, free of charge, will automatically become a Skywards Blue member, hence will have access to the basic onboard internet plan.
So in simple terms to get access to messaging app only internet for free on EK flights all you’ll need to do is sign up to Skywards before boarding your flight. Once aboard just login with you access details and you’ll be able to message friends and family while cruising to your destination.
What About Premium Cabins And Elite Skywards Status Passengers?
Premium cabin and elite Skywards members get something more than the basic messaging plan on Emirates flights.
- First Class passengers who have signed up to the Skywards frequent flyer programme get complimentary unlimited internet access during their flight. Regardless of the status level (Blue, Silver, Gold or Platinum).
- Platinum, Silver and Gold Skywards members also get free unlimited internet access when travelling in Business class.
- Only Platinum Skywards members get free unlimited internet access when also travelling in Economy Class.
