Etihad is moving fast in the last few months. The airline has been enhancing services across its network and announcing new destinations. It seems clear that the airline has found a balance, following a resizing, and is now ready to start expanding its reach once again. That will certainly be the case in summer 2025 when the Abu Dhabi based carrier will implement a major schedule upgrade to some of its key destinations worldwide, among which is Sydney International Airport.
Sydney to Receive 10 Weekly Etihad Flights in 2025
It must be specified that when stating summer 2025 we do refer to northern summer. Therefore, it effectively is dead in the middle of the Australian winter season.
The new flight schedule will bring 10 weekly flights to Sydney operated by Etihad Airways. The Abu Dhabi based airline will be enhancing its current daily service EY450 with a second flight to EY454. This second flight will arrive at SYD airport just as it opens for business in the morning, at 06:10. It will return to Abu Dhabi in the evening at 20:35.
Flight | From | To | Departure | Arrival | Plane | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
EY454 | Abu Dhabi (AUH) | Sydney (SYD) | 22:25 | 18:10+1 | Boeing 777-300ER | 3x Weekly |
EY455 | Sydney (SYD) | Abu Dhabi (AUH) | 20:35 | 05:05+1 | Boeing 777-300ER | 3x Weekly |
Flights will be available every:
- Monday
- Thursday
- Sunday
With this new service Sydney is set to become Australia’s most frequently served airport by Etihad. The airline expects good volumes of passengers on the route as it will be serving this additional service to Sydney with its largest plane behind the A380. The 777-300ER will be the aircraft of choice for flight EY454 from Abu Dhabi to Sydney.
These planes come in 3 configurations in the Etihad Fleet. One of them featuring even first class cabins, which won’t be available on this service. Therefore, flight EY454 will be served by one of the following configurations:
Config 1
- 40 Business Class Seats
- 340 Economy Class Seats
Config 2
- 28 Business Class Seats
- 384 Economy Class Seats
It must be noted that although the Boeing 777s are among Etihad’s largest planes, they are not fitted with the most up to date cabin product.
For starters, they don’t offer the new suite-like business class seats and have a more open cabin layout that doesn’t insure as much privacy to each passenger.
I would personally try to fly the morning flight instead of the evening one. I think that would ensure a much better onboard experience. But that’s just my very own personal opinion.
Not Limiting itself to Only Sydney
As mentioned at the beginning of the post, the Sydney schedule power up is part of a much wider plan. Etihad will power up many of its strategic destinations worldwide in early 2025. Some destinations will get a clean double daily frequency, while others, like Sydney will only be double daily on some days of the week.
Double Daily flights 7 Days a Week:
- Manchester
- Madrid
- Barcelona
- Paris
- Zurich
- Frankfurt
- Munich
- Milan
- Rome
- Jakarta
Other Schedule Increases:
- Dublin – 10x Weekly
- Casablanca – 7x Weekly
- Malaga – 5x Weekly
- Copenhagen – 5x Weekly
- Bali – 7x Weekly
- Sydney – 10x Weekly
These add to the just recently announced new flights to Prague and Warsaw, also coming in 2025.
