How To Get Free Wi-Fi on Etihad Flights?

Etihad has invested heavily in its fleet. The Abu Dhabi based carrier has undergone massive transformation after an initial phase of aggressive expansion. A phase to make the business overall more sustainable and profitable on the long run. One of the major innovations introduced is onboard wi-fi on all its wide body aircraft. This has rapidly become a service we come to expect from carriers in the 2020. Beyond the wi-fi service, Etihad offers a free internet option. Let’s find out what it offers passengers and how to get access to it on your next EY flight.

What Does the Free Etihad Wi-Fi Option Offer?

Yes, it is true, there is a free onboard wi-fi option on Etihad flights and later we’ll see how to get access to it. However, it doesn’t exactly allow you to surf freely the internet how many of you would hope. It is a solution that allows to use during flights instant messaging apps.

Therefore, as mentioned, you won’t be able to surf the internet, browse websites or stream to your device from your favourite content platform. To do so, unless you are a platinum Etihad Guest status holder, you’ll have to purchase a paid package which will set you back:

  • 9,99 Euro on flights up to 7 hours
  • 24,99 Euro on flights above 7 hours

There is also an option to pay the internet access with EY Guest miles. However, I strongly suggest you do not use your miles on these ancillary services. You among the lowest value for your miles doing so.

If you really can’t be without an internet connection during your stay onboard, then just pay the cash price for the surf solution.

How Can I Access the EY Free Onboard Wi-Fi?

The only way to use the free instant messaging internet connection on Etihad Airways flights is to be an Etihad Guest loyalty program member. If you sign up to the program, before you board your flight, and them login once aboard you will have instant access to the messaging Wi-Fi package.

Do make sure though to sign up before boarding your flight as it might prove complicated to do so in order to have access one you already have boarded and taken off.
