We’ve had a continuous flow of news and information coming from Emirates these days. The middle eastern aviation giant has been very active, particularly in announcing new routes and route resumptions. This is the case for this article as well. In this case EK is powering up operations to Hong Kong, one of Asia’s main aviation hubs. Let’s find out what the news is all about and how the new schedule will work.
About The Extra Emirates Flight to Hong Kong
Although Emirates at the moment already operates a daily flight to Hong Kong’s International Airport, this new flight coming in Spring 2023 will be the first direct service since the covid outbreak.
The Emirates service at the moment connecting Dubai to Hong Kong is flight EK384 which operates via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. This new direct flight will allow Emirates passengers to make the trip in just over 7 hours instead of 11.
Something that will be much appreciated, particularly if travelling onwards to a destination beyond Dubai on the Emirates network. With all of that said, here’s the schedule of the new Dubai Hong Kong Emirates flight EK380:
- EK380 will depart every day Dubai (DXB) at 10:45 arriving into Hong Kong (HKG) at 22:00
- EK381, the return flight, will depart Hong Kong (HKG) at 00:35 arriving into Dubai (DXB) at 05:00
As mentioned above, the outbound flight will have an estimated flight time of 7 hours 15 minutes. The return flight however, will be a little longer, clocking in at 8 hours 25 minutes.
The new EK hong flight will complement the already present service EK384 which is also daily. The existing flight makes a short stop in Bangkok on its journey. Once both flights are operational EK384 will fly according to this schedule:
- EK384 will depart every day Dubai (DXB) at 02:50 arriving into Hong Kong (HKG) at 18:05
- EK385, the return flight, will depart Hong Kong (HKG) at 21:30 arriving into Dubai (DXB) at 04:45
Doubling the A380
Both flights will be operated using the much loved Emirates Airbus A380. As far as we can see the configuration chosen for this flight is the classic (legacy) 3 class one with:
- 14 Fist Class Suites
- 76 Business Class Seats
- 427 Economy Class Seats
I think the airline will be able to use the larger economy cabin on this flight as with the short flight time crew rest will probably not be necessary. Usually you’ll see planes with a crew rest compartment when the flight time is above 9 and a half hours or so.
If instead the airline will need to use the long range cabin version, economy capacity will decrease to 399 seats.
