American Airlines among the big three US carriers has the strongest domestic presence and network. However work is being done in order not to lose too much ground from its two main competitors. Therefore AA is eyeing an important new service that, if approved by the DOT, would connect two of the main cities in Asia and the US. Let’s find out all there is to know abut this possibile new American Airlines ULR flight.
American Airlines Proposed New ULR Service
The proposed flight, still pending approval from the department of transport, would connect the cities of New York and Tokyo. Specifically American Airlines is planning of serving JFK airport and Tokyo’s city airport of Haneda.
If approved and if American Airlines’ plan comes to fruition, they will be the only US operator offering flights on this ULR route.
As the application is still pending approval, there isn’t yet an exact date for the start of the service. However the carrier is most likely hoping to get the first flights off the ground in 2024 and, who knows, maybe ahead of the busy summer season.
The flight will join the current AA service offering from its hubs in DFW and LAX and will be from the get go a daily service.
Which Are The Other Airlines on The New York to Tokyo Route?
Although the two cities are huge financial of the US and Japan, there isn’t a huge offering of flights on the route. Currently, awaiting approval of the American Airlines proposed service, there are only 2 operators flying the route with 2 daily flights each. As mentioned above, neither of them is a US airline.
All flights, as of November 2023, are operated by Japanese carriers. Specifically:
- Japan Airlines (JAL)
- All Nippon Airways (ANA)
AA’s flight will work in synergy with those operated by JAL as they both are OneWorld alliance members. In fact AA has scheduled its flight to sit perfectly in between JAL’s morning and evening service.
The Proposed American Airlines Schedule for New York JFK to Tokyo Haneda Flights
The schedule of the flight is clearly been agreed with their Japanese partner JAL in order to integrate the current offering. AA will operate an all day flight from New York JFK to Tokyo Haneda and an afternoon departure from the Japanese capital. That afternoon departure sits perfectly in between JAL’s morning and evening services.
