The 2023 summer season isn’t over yet, however it’s already time to start looking ahead and for airlines to start planning next summer’s operations. American Airlines is among those looking to further expand its already extensive network with 3 new transatlantic flights joining its network in summer 2024. So let’s find out where American will be flying to next year and all the details we know so far.
Which Are The New American Airlines European Destinations For 2024?
American Airlines will be taking off from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to three new destinations in Europe:
- Nice, France (NCE)
- Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH)
- Naples, Italy (NAP)
The carrier hasn’t released a huge amount of information regarding these three new services but we do know: frequency, launch date and aircraft type. So here it is.
When Will The New Philadelphia to Copenhagen Naples and Nice Flights Start Flying?
All three new American Airlines flights will start operating ahead of the summer 2024 season. The services will have similar launch dates with flights taking to the skies on these days:
- Flights from Philadelphia to Nice will start on May 6th 2024
- Philadelphia to Naples flights will commence service on June 5th 2024
- Flights from Philadelphia to Copenhagen will start on June 6th 2024
All three flights while active will be a daily connection.
The Plane Chosen For the New American Airlines 2024 European Flights
The three new routes will share the same aircraft type. AA will be deploying its smallest wide body aircraft to these 3 new destinations: the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
This makes perfect sense as demand might not be high enough on these new routes to fill bigger planes, and in Naples case the airport isn’t big enough to support larger planes. This is exactly where the Boeing 787-8 shines.
The airliner allows operators, such as American Airlines, to fly profitably lower demand routes or direct non-stop routes to secondary airports such as Naples.
AA has configured its Boeing 787-8 in a 3 class layout featuring:
- 20 Flat Bed Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout
- 28 Premium Economy seats in a 2-3-2 layout
- 186 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout
The seats the Boeing 787-8s are fitted with vary across the fleet with alternatively:
- French produced Safran Concept D seats or Super Diamond by Collins Aerospace seats in Business Class.
- Safran 5751 or Collins Aerospace seats in Economy Class.
