Delta Resuming Nonstop Flights to Venice From New York

We’ve wrapped up 2023 with its very positive financial results for Delta Air Lines, as it was for many other carriers out there, and one piece of information stood out more than any other. Delta had a fantastic year particularly thanks to transatlantic services. Hoping that the trend continues into the busy summer season in 2024, the Atlanta based carrier is looking to bring back an all time favourite flight for Europe-bound US tourists. 2024 will see Delta resume direct non-stop services from New York to Venice, Italy. Let’s dive straight into the news.

A great connection for tourism in Venice and US travellers

It’s no secret that Venice is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Europe and among most appreciated by US travellers. Also in 2023 many Americans made their way across the Atlantic for their holidays. Therefore Delta is hoping to see a similar trend in this new year and to intercept even more passengers serving one of the most visited tourist destinations.

The new flight DL288, more a returning flight to the Delta schedule, will connect the airline’s northeastern hub in New York’s JFK airport to Venice’s Marco Polo International Airport (VCE).

For the city on the other hand it will increase the influx of high spending visitors from the US. And will offer a more convenient and direct connection to one of the most important metropolitan areas in the world, New York City.

One Of The Older Delta Planes For The Route

Although Delta Air Lines’ fleet features some ultra modern aircraft, we won’t be seeing them on this particular route. As often happens to leisure destinations with many airlines, DL is deploying one of its older planes on the route. Specifically to the New York JFK to Venice flight DL288 will be operated using the Boeing 767-300ER.

These planes have an average age of 26 years. Although the cabins have been renovated in that time span they clearly don’t offer the airline’s most up to date hard product. The planes that will fly on route DL288 are quite leisure oriented with 226 overall seats, split in:

  • 26 Business Class Seats. In a 1-2-1 layout.
  • 200 Economy Class Seats. in a 2-3-2 layout (of which 35 offer extra leg room, sold as Comfort+)

Flights will be connecting New York (JFK) to Venice (VCE) on a daily basis.

The scheduling of the flight is also quite good for leisure travellers. Arrival into Venice allows to have a full day exploring the Laguna while returning in to New York is just ahead of supper time which is good to burn off jet lag rapidly.
