Further proof of how the airline is rapidly recovering comes from its latest aircraft order. United Airlines has made the largest 787 order in the history of Boeing. About the United 787 Order
United Airlines has just announced placing an order for a substantial quantity of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Specifically the number of planes ordered is 100, with an option for further 100 of the type.
The American carrier will have the possibility of choosing among the 8,9 or 10 variants. This will allow the airline to have greater flexibility in planning its future operations both domestically and internationally.
The delivery of these planes is expected to start in 2024 and end in 2032. This huge order aims to modernise the United fleet and reduce significantly fuel usage along with carbon emissions.
United’s plan is to use these new Boeing 787s to replace the ageing fleet of 777 and 767 currently flying. Specifically the 767s are expected to be retired completely by the end of 2030.
We’ll probably a part, if not the majority, these planes fitted with the new Polaris Business class cabins that have become more and more the norm on United flights.
Not Only 787s for UA
That said, United Airlines didn’t “just” order 100 787 from Boeing but also exercised the option to purchase 44 737 MAX to be delivered between 2024 and 2026. A further order for 56 others of the type was also placed, this time with an estimated delivery window from 2027 and 2028.
