Rome Fiumicino Receives a 5 Star Skytrax Rating

Rome Fiumicino has profoundly changed over the past years with extensive renovations involving all of the airports terminals. Rome is Italy’s busiest airport and finally is up to par with the most modern hubs worldwide. Fiumicino (FCO) has now a 5 star SkyTrax rating.

How did Rome Fiumicino Obtain a 5 Star SkyTrax Rating?

Many boxes must be checked to obtain the highest rating SkyTrax offers. The ranking evaluates airport infrastructures, services, airport staff along with many other aspects.

In the past years the airport has undergone a heavy makeover that involved all of Fiumicino’s terminals. New terminal expansions were built, the older parts were modernised and new faster security checks introduced.

Also the way terminals are named and used has changed since the modernisation came to an end. Now all EU flights depart Terminal 1 while all extra EU flights depart from Terminal 3. Although there is an exception, ITA Airways that operates all flights, long and short range, from Terminal 1.

Therefore no more sad looking all low cost airline Terminal 2 and no more lost in the middle of nowhere terminal 5.

Now Equal to Other Great Airports

Rome Fiumicino (FCO) now shares the same 5 Star SkyTrax ranking as some other world class airports. Such as:

Just this summer I flew from Fiumicino international airport. It was a very pleasant experience compared to the past. There is no comparing the airport to what it was a decade ago.

Furthermore ADR (the company that manages the airport) announced that the new Pier B will also open. A further step towards improving the airport.

These changes are also looking to help intercept connecting passengers. Something that with its network expansions flag carrier ITA Airways is also making an effort to intercept.
