Great news for Rome Fiumicino Airport, as it receives its second award of the year. On June 28th it was awarded by the ACI best airport of 2023 award in its category.
Some Details About the Award Rome Fiumicino Airport Received
As mentioned above, the prestigious award was presented to Rome Fiumicino Airport by ACI (Airport Council International). An international organisation founded in 1991 aiming at unifying industry practices for airport standards. Currently approximately 2000 airports are part of ACI.
Specifically Fiumicino International Airport was recognised as Europe’s best airport in the 40+ million passengers category. Also the award comes after Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport received a 5 star Skytrax rating earlier this year.
A Greatly Improved Airport
Although it nice to see awards presented to Rome’s main airport, it is even better to finally be able to experience an airport that serves the city of Rome justice. The airport has undergone extensive renovations that have finally brought it up to par with Europe and the world’s best airports.
The airport has introduced state of the art security checks that don’t force passengers to take laptop and fluids out of their hand luggage. The gates areas are brighter and roomier and just simply a much nicer place to be in than what it used to be like. The duty free and restaurants areas are welcoming at last and really do make you want to splash some cash.
Also the airport is looking beyond the short term. Just a few days ago I talked about Rome Fiumicino’s plan to fit the largest photovoltaic solar panel system of its kind in Europe. All with the aim of getting closer to its goal of carbon neutrality. SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) will also gradually have an always stronger presence in the airport to help the industry as a whole reduce its environmental footprint.
