While the Paris Air Show is taking the spotlight we’ll be talking about the latest Airbus A220 delivery. The airline receiving the plane isn’t a glamorous one or even a particularly sought after one. What makes the delivery interesting is that it add another Airbus A220 operator to the list. Today we’re talking about Bulgaria Air taking delivery of its first A220.
The First Bulgaria Air A220
Technically the Bulgarian flag carrier hasn’t bought its first Airbus A220, it’s leasing it from the Air Lease Corporation (ALC). It’ll do the same with the other 6 A220s it’ll receive in the coming months.
This first A220 that Bulgaria Air just took delivery of is the larger 300 variant of the type. The carrier plans to take on in its fleet other:
- 4 Airbus A220-300
- 2 Airbus A220-100

An Expanding Fleet?
Looking at the Bulgaria Air fleet it is likely that these new planes will expand the current lineup. The arrival of the A220s will enable the airline to serve more routes across Europe. Also the aircraft type will open new possibilities of international medium range routes with its range in excess of 3,400 nm (6,300 km).
How Will The New A220s be Configured?
It seems like the airline intends to configure its newest additions to the fleet with a 2 class configuration. What is stated is that the Bulgaria Air Airbus A220-100 and A220-300 will have 8 business class seats. It remains to be seen, once the aircraft is deployed on regular commercial services if these will be 8 dedicated business class seats in a 2-2 layout or just the economy class seats with alternated seats blocked.
The latter option is what most A220 operators do at the moment so it would be a surprise to see Bulgaria Air, not one of the leading carriers go in a different direction to the big boys.
