Doha and, most importantly, Qatar Airways had some ground to make up on its main rival in the region (Emirates) in one key aspect of its operations: the airport. Facilities made a major leap forward with the opening of the new Hamad International airport and have just made another with the opening of 2 more concourses in the Qatari airport.
New Concourses D and E Open at Doha International Airport
The latest leap forwards made by Doha Hamad international Airport is the opening of two more state-of-the-art terminal concourses. Concourses D and E are now ready to welcome passengers traveling across the Qatar Airways network boosting massively the overall airport yearly passenger capacity.

The opening of concourses D and E at Doha International airport is the final piece of the puzzle for the airport expansion project which kicked off in 2018. Since the airport has undergone a massive transformation becoming one of the highest ranked airports in the world in terms of facilities. Facilities and attractions that also include the renown ORCHARD opened in 2022.
I am pleased to see this expansion project, with conclusion of both concourses going live, which I have personally been involved with since 2018. While many global airport expansions have faced delays, we are proud to have delivered this major development ahead of schedule.

The Key Figures of Doha International Airport With Concourses D and E Open
The two new terminal concourses, D and E, at Doha Hamad International airport are a hugely important for the hometown carrier Qatar Airways. The new extensions will allow seamless and smooth transit experience for even more passengers. Simply because there will be more contact gates, which means with jetways, which means in turn that less planes will have to park at remote stands with lengthy bus rides to the main terminal building.

A total of 17 (9 in concourse D and 8 in concourse E) new contact gates have been added with the total now reaching an impressive 62. With that and the additional floor space the concourses bring along Hamad international airport is now capable of handling over 65 million passengers per year.
Let me recap what the new concourses D and E bring to the table for DOH airport:
- 17 new contact gates bringing overall number to 62 (40% more than before)
- 102,000 additional square meters of floorspace
- 2,700 square meters of retail space
- New self-boarding capable gates
- Added passenger capacity boosting annual maximum passengers to over 65 million
This latest upgrade gives Qatar Airways much more space to grow and expand its operations without hindering the passenger experience during transit at Doha international airport.
