Guangzhou International Airport is home to one of the newly branded lounges by Star Alliance. This has been a trend that airline alliances have been riding, with them opening more and more shared premium lounges across the world. In 2024, Star Alliance opened its first at Guangzhou International Airport, and now it’s expanded it, relocated it, and opened it with more space and facilities.

Star Alliance opens its new T3 branded lounge
In late 2024, the Star Alliance opened its very first branded lounge at Guangzhou International Airport in China. The lounge was located in Terminal 1 and was a test project by the Star Alliance, judging from how they took action with a new version of the lounge.
Shared branded lounges have become more popular across the globe, with one world also hopping on the wagon, opening its own.
The new version of the lounge is opening in Terminal 3, which is a new facility at the airport with a much bigger footprint.
The new facility covers 1,400 square meters and has seating for up to 245 guests, which is more than double the capacity of the older T1-located Star Alliance lounge.
Facilities and amenities of the lounge
The lounge features something quite rare, particularly at congested and busy airports such as Guangzhou. That is a 700 square meter outdoor garden. An area to relax and maybe sightsee some planes while waiting for your flight if you are an aviation geek like me.
The lounge is open 24/7 to accommodate all international flight departures and arrivals. Among the lounge’s facilities and features are:
- Sleeping pods
- Private rooms
- Dedicated working zones
- A sculptural kapok flower installation
The Alliance states that fine dining food options are available at the lounge. They are curated and created in collaboration with the Pullman Hotel staff.
However, it must be highlighted that it is not the Pullman staff cooking at the Guangzhou Star Alliance lounge. Food preparation and the management of the lounge is outsourced to the airport’s business travel subsidiary.
That means that there might be inconsistencies in service standards compared to other alliance-managed lounges such as those in London and Los Angeles.
Goungzhou Star Alliance Lounge Access Rules
The rules to access the Star Alliance lounge at T3, Guangzhou International Airport are rather standard for a facility of this type.
Access is reserved to 1st and Business Class passengers, in addition to Star Alliance Gold status members, regardless of the state of the cabin class they are traveling in.
Additionally you must be traveling out of Terminal 3 in Guangzhou the same day on a Star Alliance airline in order to get access. Star Alliance Airlines operating out of Guangzhou International Airport include:
