Introduction: A Tribute to 100 Years of Flight

2026 is a year American Airlines is extremely keen on celebrating. Next year is in fact the carrier's founding centennial anniversary. 100 years of flights have passed since American Airlines, albeit not in its modern setup, first took to the skies.

In a century the airline has become an iconic brand in the aviation industry. For long recognizable anywhere because of its glossy bare metal livery. In recent years the airline has moved away from that legacy look. However, in occasion of this special anniversary it is bringing back to life one of its oldest liveries. American Airlines calls it the Flagship livery and here's what it looks like.

The New Flagship Livery on Boeing 777-300ER N735AT

The new livery is a revival of the a look first seen on an American Airlines DC-3 over 90 years ago.

The paint scheme's base color is the AA Silver Eagle grey tint which is now applied to all aircraft across the fleet. However, that's were similarities with how other planes look end.

Along each side of the plane are orange lightning bolt motifs. Above them the wording “Flagship” and towards the rear of the fuselage a legacy American Airlines logo.

This American Airlines retro livery will be applied to one of its flagship aircraft, the Boeing 777-300ER. Specifically it'll be applied to the aircraft registered N735AT.

The aircraft is also getting a name to go with the livery. Reviving a tradition as old as the original American Airlines has named the aircraft “Flagship DFW”. Back in the day planes were given names according to the city they served.

Upcoming 777-300 Interior Refresh and Cabin Highlights

However, this plane won't only look stunning on the outside. Along with the new American Airlines special centenary livery, N735AT will also be getting new retrofitted interiors across all cabins.

The new livery will come along with the most recent version of American Airlines aircraft interiors. That is the interiors that are currently fitted to all Boeing 787-9 since summer of 2025.

The new configuration features the new American Airlines Flagship Suite. That is the new and updated long haul version of Flagship Business class. Flagship Suite Business class comes with sleek, elegant and modern redesigned interiors along with a privacy door which closes off the seat from the rest of the cabin. That creates the suite effect, many airlines are adopting for their premium cabins.

N735AT will be the first of American's Boeing 777-300 to be retrofitted with the new interiors as part of the centenary celebrations. Each 777-300 will be fitted with a whopping 70 seats and 44 Premium Economy seats. Translated this is going to be a very premium heavy configuration.

There'll be something to look forward to in Premium Economy and Main Cabin too:

  • Premium Economy seats will feature wireless charging stations and a new headrest wings and new calf and footrests.
  • Main cabin seats will get a larger seat back entertainment UHD screens offering 4K QLED resolution and USB-C charging ports.
