British Airways has one of the most extensive international destination networks in the world. However, even for BA it results difficult to serve some of the most distant holiday hotspots year-round. To still offer its millions of customers flights to some of the most sought-after holiday destinations the airline resorts to striking deals and agreements with other carriers. Exactly as it has just done with Bangkok Airways by expanding the scope of an already standing agreement.

British Airways Expands its Standing Codeshare Agreement with Bangkok Airways

While demand for many other destinations slows down in the fall and winter seasons, demand for flights to Thailand and southeast Asia sees a seasonal peak at the height of northern winter. That’s because many Europeans head down to Thailand and neighbouring countries to get a break from the cold and gloomy weather. From some cities there’s just never enough capacity on flights to southeast Asia in December.

That of flights from Europe to Thailand and southeast Asia is just a noticeably big market in the wintertime. One too big to be ignored by a carrier such as British Airways. However, it is overly complicated and economically not viable for the airline to serve flights directly to the top destinations.

In come the Bangkok Airways codeshare agreement. BA and Bangkok Airways already had a standing agreement in place, however, the two airlines decided to further strengthen it.

Now BA can sell on its own sales channels tickets for flights operated by Bangkok Airways. That translates, on the passenger’s side, to the possibility of booking a single ticket for a flight to the holiday destination. The destinations included in the new agreement are:

  • Koh Samui (USM)
  • Chiang Mai (CNX)
  • Phuket (HKT)
  • Phnom Penh (PNH)
  • Siem Reap (SAI)

Simply put BA passengers will fly on British Airways planes to Bangkok where they will switch over to a Bangkok Airways plane to one of these 5 destinations.
