Lufthansa introduces a new champagne in first class

First Class has become a very niche product in the aviation industry. Lufthansa is one of the few carriers worldwide still offering the travel class and is looking for ways to innovate the onboard product. To do so, it has just announced that it will be introducing a new option of champagne in its first class cabin with it being La Grande Dame by Veuve Clicquot.

Lufthansa's new champagne option in first class

Champagne and first class go hand in hand. It is a given that you buy a first-class ticket, and you do get high-quality champagne served as your welcome drink.

Lufthansa has just announced that it is introducing a new champagne in its first class cabin, one that comes from the renowned winery Veuve Clicquot.

Specifically, the Champagne that Lufthansa will be now offering in its first-class cabins is La Grande Dame. For the wine connoisseurs, this sparkling wine is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a higher proportion of Pinot Noir.

A bottle of this new Lufthansa-secured champagne retails for about €200 on the online market.

This is a nice new addition to the first class cabin product offered by Lufthansa in its centennial of operations, having started flying in 1926 and celebrating 100 years of flight in 2026.

Lufthansa secures an LVMH champagne outside of the Emirates exclusivity deal

Those that follow closely aviation news and particularly the in-flight product updates might know that LVMH has signed a substantial contract with Emirates for the supply of champagne, and it includes a somewhat large exclusivity.

However, Lufthansa has found a champagne which is part of the LVMH family under the Veuve Clicquot winery brand that is not part of that deal and has secured supplies for its first class cabin.

It is extremely important for airlines that still operate the first class cabin product to justify and create a substantial difference between business class and first class. Especially as the line blurring in many cases with many high-end business class products, inching closer to what older first class products used to offer.

This is also part of the FOX Lufthansa project (Future Onboard Experience), which is redesigning what the airline offers on its long-haul flights in its premium cabins. In addition to upgraded cuisine it brings to the table (literally), it brings tableware, new amenities, and this exclusive first-class champagne, La Grande Dame.
