Set aside the low cost carriers operating flights in and out of the United Kingdom, British Airways is the big player in this neck of the woods. The British flag carrier currently has a strong presence in 3 of London’s airports. However come summer 2024 it’ll start operating from a fourth airfield offering international flights to a selection of destinations in Europe.
British Airways To Start Operating Flights From London Stansted
The big news in British aviation this week is the fact that the country’s flag carrier will be starting to operate flights in and out of London’s third busiest airport, Stansted.
The first flights will take to the sky on May 18th 2024 ahead of the busy summer season. The new services the airline will offer from Stansted include flights to:
- Florence (FLR)
- Nice (NCE)
- Ibiza (IBZ)
They will all be operated by BA’s subsidiary Cityflyer on the weekend, which brings us on to the next point we need to talk about these new flight operations.
BA’s Cityflyer Serving The Routes On London City’s Off Peak
As mentioned above, British Airways Cityflyer will be operating the 3 new routes which will be operating in and out of London Stansted International Airport.
Those who follow BA’s operations closely also know that the airline’s subsidiary Cityflyer operates flights from London City Airport. The last piece of info you must know is that LCY mainly caters to business and finance travellers. This means that the airport and Cityflyer are busy during the week, but much less on the weekend.
Therefore to put its planes to good use during this low demand time BA has decided to shift some of its LCY based planes to Stansted to operate these new services.
The Schedule of The New BA Stansted Flights for 2024
All three flights from Stansted will start off as a once per week service. They will operate the inbound (to London) flight on Saturday and the outbound flight on Sunday for the summer 2024 season. Also all three new flights will start operations on the same day May 18th 2024.

The Planes for The New Stansted BA Flights
Well there isn’t much to talk about in this aspect. British Airways’ Cityflyer only operates one aircraft type, the Embraer E195. Therefore all these flights will share this aircraft type with the whole cabin fitted with the same economy seats. However there will be 2 classes of travel with the middle seats blocked to form BA’s business class.
