Cathay Pacific has been very slow and cautious in resuming flights post-2020. The airline suffered a much harsher border closing than many other international airlines both worldwide and in the Southeast Asia region. However, this situation was for the carrier’s balance sheet a blessing in disguise (much less for the employees). The airline restructured both its operations and its fleet in order to become more streamlined and financially efficient. This also meant that the airline had less fire-power when the borders opened up and many of its peers were opening new routes as quickly as they could. However after a slower initial phase the airline is now ramping up its route network expansion looking ahead to 2025. The latest additions to the network to be announced are Munich and Brussels.
Cathay Pacific Expanding its Presence in Europe in 2025 With Flights CX301 e CX291 to Munich and Bruxelles
2025, albeit in the latter half of the year, will see the Hong Kong based airline open two new routes to Europe. Two non-stop direct flights to strategic airports, Star Alliance strongholds Brussels and Munich.
Flights will operate as CX301 (to Munich) and CX291 (to Brussels) they will expand Cathay Pacific’s services to the continent with 8 weekly additional flights split evenly between the two destinations. Both flights will also share the same aircraft type as CX will be using its A350-900s on them.
These planes feature a 3 class configuration set up with:
- 38 Business Class seats in a layout 1-2-1
- 28 Premium Economy seats in a layout 2-4-2
- 214 Economy Class seats in a layout 3-3-3
This aircraft choice means that there won’t be the new Cathay Aria Suites on these flights. The Aria Suites are only presento on the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet at the moment so, don’t get your hopes up.
The new Cathay Pacific services to Europe will launch on:
- August 3rd 2025 – Hong Kong (HKG) – Brussels (BRU)
- June 16th 2025 – Hong Kong (HKG) – Munich (MUC)

Cathay Grows its European Network to 11 Destinations
Brussels and Munch (flights CX301 and CX291) will become the airline’s tenth and eleventh destination in Europe. They will add to the list already featuring:
- Milan Malpensa (MXP)
- London Heathrow (LHR)
- Frankfurt (FRA)
- Madrid (MAD)
- Zurich (ZRH)
- Paris (CDG)
- Amsterdam (AMS)
- Manchester (MAN)
- Barcelona (BCN) – Summer seasonal flight

Cathay will up its current weekly flights from 78 to 93. The airline is taking advantage of a key strategic advantage it holds over all EU carriers, it can fly over Russia. That means that Cathay Pacific is able to make the flights work better economically as it can save massive amounts of fuel by taking the Russian shortcut.
However, unlike its Chinese counterparts, Cathay has a much more international footprint making it a much more attractive and welcoming option for westerners looking to travel to the far east with a stop in Hong Kong’s stunning international airport.

Therefore, by serving them CX is now offering an attractive option to travel east possibly diverting passengers away from the hometown carrier.
