Austin due to its proximity to two of the largest airports in the US and the world, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth, has had a hard time attracting major airline services. Also it has had a bumpy ride in the past weeks with American Airlines reducing services from the Texan airport. However, that is partly compensated by Delta increasing its services to the airport in 2025.
Five New Delta Flights For Austin Airport
The Atlanta based airline is looking to strengthen its position in Texas, where its competitor American Airlines recently reduced services, with five new flights. These new flights are mix both leisure and business destinations.
Delta will be gradually rolling out the five new flights throughout the first half of 2025. With them being:
- Panama City, Florida (ECP) – Starting March 9th 2025
- Memphis (MEM) – Starting May 7th 2025
- San Francisco (SFO) – Starting June 8th 2025
- Indianapolis (IND) – Starting May 7th 2025
- Tampa (TPA) – Starting June 8th 2025
Looking to Appeal to Non-Stop Flyers – Aircraft Types Chosen
The routes, as mentioned, intend to appeal to both business and leisure travellers. However, what ties these two groups together is that the airline is looking to serve passengers who favour non-stop flights over ones with transfers. These 5 new routes are all non-stop. Furthermore, among them Delta’s Austin to Memphis flight will be the only direct and non-stop option to fly between the two cities.
The aircraft for these flighs are all small narrow body jets. Specifically:
- San Francisco and Tampa – Will be operated using Delta’s Airbus A220-300s
- Indianapolis, Memphis, and Panama City – Will be operated using Delta Connection (Skywest operated) Embraer ERJ-175
Therefore the former 3 will have a much smaller plane with slightly less comfortable cabins.
