A new phase is opening for the country of Syria. The newly established government has been trying to re-establish ties with foreign diplomacies and so far it seems they have gotten something right. They have been able to connect with the US, which has lifted some of its sanctions paving the way for over countries to start doing business with the country again. Among the first large entities to return to the country is Emirates which is preparing to commence flights to Damascus this summer.

Emirates Returns To Damascus 13 Years Later

Yes that is how long it has been since Emirates has operated its last flight to the capital of Syria, Damascus. A long 13 years of war and turmoil have passed since Emirates has flown to the country. I was still working for Emirates when Damascus was still in the destination network and I have long left Dubai.

Now, however, the airline is preparing to resume its service to the capital city and the country in just a few short weeks.

July 16th 2025, pending approval of local authorities, will see Emirates resume flights on the Dubai to Damascus route. Initially flight EK913 will only have a 3x weekly frequency, that will rapidly change and jump up to a 4x weekly frequency starting August 2nd to then finally be upgraded to a daily frequency starting October 26th.

The timings will remain unchanged during the entire time with flight EK913 operating as follows:

  • EK913: Departs Dubai (DXB) at 12:00 arriving in Damascus (DAM) at 14:10.
  • EK914: Departs Damascus (DAM) at 16:30 arriving in Dubai (DXB) at 20:30.

The aircraft of choice is among the oldest in Emirates’ fleet, one of very few remaining Boeing 777-200LR, which feature some of the oldest cabin interiors fitted with:

  • 38 Business class seats in a 2-2-2 layout.
  • 264 Economy Class seats in a 3-4-3 standard layout.

The flight isn’t all that long from Dubai to Damascus and is primarily focused in hauling cargo and providing a way into the country to contract workers as is often the case with countries opening up after tumultuous periods, as also happened with Iraq.
