For many airlines, the A321XLR, despite passengers not loving it, is the future of long-haul operations. Among those airlines is Iberia, which is embracing the capabilities of the A321XLR on a growing number of U.S. destinations. Among them: New York-Newark (EWR).

The new A321XLR Iberia flight Madrid to New York IB327
Iberia is truly embracing the capabilities of the A321XLR on transatlantic services. On the European side of the Atlantic Ocean, no other airline is leveraging the capabilities of the A321XLR as Iberia is.
The new generation long-haul capable narrow body produced by Airbus has become rapidly the workhorse of many long-haul routes across the Atlantic.
It is also the aircraft operating the newly launched IB327 service from Madrid Barajas International Airport to New York Newark Liberty Airport.
IB327 from Madrid to New York is a six times weekly flight. Which brings up the total flights between Madrid and the New York area metropolitan area to as many as three daily services
| Flight Number | Departure Airport | Airport Code | Departure Time | Arrival Airport | Airport Code | Arrival Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IB327 | Madrid | MAD | 19:35 | New York | EWR | 22:25 |
| IB328 | New York | EWR | 23:55 | Madrid | MAD | 13:20+1 |
IB327: Powered by the A321XLR
This is a growing list of transatlantic flights it is operated using the brand new fleet of A321XLR aircraft that Iberia possesses.

These planes are configured and optimized for long-haul operations in a two-class configuration featuring:
- 16 lie-flat business class seats in a 1-1 configuration.
- 168 Economy Class seats in a 3-3 configuration.
The fuel economy and the low per-seat cost of this aircraft type, make the A321XLR, a real game changer for an airline such as Iberia.
Flights like IB327 are now possible, and other flights like Madrid to Washington, which were only seasonal, are now possible year-round thanks to the savings brought to the table by the A321XLR.
The aircraft is a fantastic money maker for the airline; however, it is not all that comfortable for passengers traveling in economy. A single-aisle aircraft on a very long flight can be quite uncomfortable for economy passengers having to sit in a 3-3 configuration, sharing fewer lavatories.

Additionally, it is also quite uncomfortable for the crew that has to work in a very small, cramped galley serving a large number of passengers and having very little space to rest during the flight.
