Icelandair is an airline that has always fascinated me. A carrier that floats somewhere in between full service and low-cost, national carrier and a more informal suit. The business model is fascinating as well, offering cheap connections with a stopover in Reykjavik between US and Europe. Two new flights in Europe will further expand the offering come winter 2025.
Icelandair Prepares To Launch Flights to Malaga and Edinburgh
The two new flights will come into the Icelandair network just as the summer season comes to a close. Both flights from and to Malaga, Spain, and Edinburgh, Scotland, will operate throughout the winter season, specifically:
- Reykjavik to Malaga will operate from September 12th 2025 through to April 12th 2026.
- Reykjavik to Edinburgh will operate from September 6th 2025 to May 30th 2026.
The flight to Malaga will only operate once or twice per week, while the shorter service to Edinburgh will operate more often with a either 3 or 4 weekly frequencies.
Boeing or Airbus Flights?
Just as there is some uncertainty on the frequencies of the new flights Icelandair will be operating this winter to Malaga and Edinburgh there also is on the aircraft type. The Icelandair fleet is no longer dominated solely by the Boeing 737, the airline now also owns and operates extremely modern and fuel efficient Airbus A321neo planes. Therefore, we’ll have to wait for the launch date to draw closer to know what aircraft the carrier will use on these routes.
