ITA Airways expands London-Italy flights: new routes & Increased frequencies

ITA Airways is aggressively trying to gain market share on routes from London to Italy. The airline already operates a considerable number of flights from its 2 hubs in Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate and is ready to double down come summer 2024. Here’s what the Italian flag carrier is planning for next year’s summer operations.

ITA Airways With Big Ambitions for London Flights

The new Italian flag carrier is trying to make the most of its new ultra efficient aircraft fleet. The airline is behaving very differently to its predecessor Alitalia. More aggressive action is being taken to enter or get a better foothold in what it sees to be key strategic markets.

One of the markets that it has clearly identified as strategic to its growth is London. The carrier has just recently deployed its brand new A321neo on flights from Rome Fiumicino to London Heathrow. A plane that features a real business class with lie flat beds in business class along with premium economy and seat back IFE screens for every seat.

Also the airline has already has a very strong presence at London City airport. 19 weekly flights are currently offered between London City airport and Milan Linate. A presence which is only destined to grow in 2024 as announced by ITA.

Further Powering Up Milan London City Flights

ITA Airways flights to London City airport will jump up to 31 weekly connections. That translates to up to 5 daily flights all operated by the A220-100. This is the only aircraft in the ITA fleet capable of meeting requirements to land at LCY.

The increase will take effect as of April 10th 2024. Including flights to Heathrow (2 daily), ITA Airways will offer 43 weekly flights from Milan to London for summer 2024.

ITA Airways Starting up First Rome to London City Flight

Along with boosting services from Milan, ITA will also be starting a route to London City Airport from its main hub in Rome Fiumicino. This will be the airlines first flight from Rome to London’s downtown airport LCY.

Flights will start serving the new route on April 1st 2024 offering 12 weekly connections throughout the 2024 summer season. Therefore it’ll be a double daily frequency on most days of the week.

This flight too will be operated by the Airbus A220-100 for the same reason explained above.
