Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia Jointly Increase Singapore Jakarta Flights

With all that has been happening in the world of aviation over the months in 2024 it kind of passed below the radar that Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines entered a joint venture on Indonesia to Singapore flights. Now, as we go further into 2024’s last quarter the two airlines are looking to further strengthen ties and key services.

Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia Increase Singapore to Jakarta Flights

Singapore to Jakarta flights are some of the most frequent in the world. The 883km separating the two southeast Asian cities see up to 28 daily services covering the route. That is an astonishing number and it’s only going to get bigger very soon.

Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have just jointly announced that they are looking to further increase flight frequencies on flights from Singapore to Jakarta. To be precise:

  • Starting November 22nd 2024, Singapore Airlines will increase its current 6x daily service to 8x daily.
  • Starting December 1st 2024, Garuda Indonesia will increase its own current 4x daily service to 6x daily.

Therefore, passengers for Singapore to Jakarta flights will now have even more options with up to 32 daily flights of which 14 (little less than 50%) operated by either SIA or Garuda Indonesia.

The reason why the two carriers announced this service increase is that, these extra 4 flights will be included in the standing codeshare agreement. Codeshare agreement which includes flights from Singapore to Denpasar, Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya along with those from Changi to Mumbai and London Heathrow.

SIA and Garuda Further Strengthening Their Partnership

Not only in the short term the two airlines are looking to increase flights on the extremely busy Singapore to Jakarta route, but in early 2025 they are also looking to power up their partnership in a very significant way.

Q1 will see Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia introduce a frequent flyer program partnership. Thereafter passengers will be able to earn and redeem GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer miles regardless of which of the two airlines operates the flight on all codeshared services. This is quite a big deal for the many travelers that regularly fly between the two cities. Now there are more and convenient ways to build up your frequent flyer tally.

Also in 2025 Q1 Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia will be introducing joint fare products. That means that you will be able to book in one itinerary flights operated by both carriers. In other words flying with these two airlines on codeshared flights will be completely seamless.

Not certain, but it might happen, are revenue sharing flights and joint sales and marketing efforts. Keep in mind this is a standalone partnership, outside of airline alliances as the carriers participate in different ones. Garuda is a SkyTeam member while Singapore Airlines is part of Star Alliance.
