Vietnam Airlines is the main SkyTeam carrier in the South East Asian region. It now is connected to all major European SkyTeam Alliance hubs with launch of flight VN83 from Hanoi to Amsterdam Schiphol on June 16th 2026.

Vietnam Airlines Flight VN83 Completes Its European Skyteam Hub Network
Over the past years Vietnam Airlines has expanded its European network by adding new services such as flight VN72 to Milan Malpensa.
However it was missing one key strategic destination to its European route map: Amsterdam.
That void has been filled with the airline setting up its newest European route from Hanoi to Amsterdam as service VN83.
This is the first ever direct connection by a Vietnamese carrier to the Netherlands.
The flight is initially a 3x weekly service. Flights operate every: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. From July 1st, however, frequencies bump up to 4x weekly as leisure traffic picks up in peak European holiday season.
A Flight That Unlocks Onward Connections at Both Ends

The flight has the usual brutal departure time we see many among many flights departing Asia bound for Europe.
It makes much more sense when you look at the return flight. A 6AM arrival time in Hanoi is ideal to offer the maximum number of onward connections.
The morning bank of flights to the rest of Asia and Melbourne departs is therefore accessible to passengers arriving on flight VN82.
Inversely the SkyTeam alliance that ties Vietnam Airlines and KLM, the Dutch national carrier, ensures passengers arriving in Amsterdam also has a vast number of flight options towards the rest of Europe.
Amsterdam Brings Vietnam Airlines’ European Network to 7 Destinations
While still missing connections to major European cities as Rome, Madrid, and many others the new VN83 service is strategically important to the Vietnamese carrier.
It completes the airline’s SkyTeam route network in Europe. It already served Paris CDG (home to Air France) and Copenhagen (home to SAS – Latest SkyTeam alliance entry) and was missing the last of the SkyTeam hubs in the continent: Amsterdam.
By serving Amsterdam Vietnam Airlines leverage KLM’s extensive EU network.
With VN83 active Vietnam Airlines has increased its European destinations to 7, which includes:

Flying Aboard The Vietnam Airlines A350-900
The aircraft chosen for the new Hanoi to Amsterdam flight is the A350-900. Despite the A350 being a relatively new aircraft it is a bit of a mixed bag.
The seat it already is feeling aged and the seat concept is also looking fatigued. While the inflight service doesn’t always wow passengers.
The Airbus A350-900 is one of two wide body aircraft types Vietnam airlines operates, along with the Boeing 787 in its 9 and 10 variants.
